Chiz Escudero for Senator in 2013

I was there as a pioneer member of "Team Chiz". We are a group of students and young professionals who volunteered ourselves to work together and bring then Rep. Chiz Escudero to the doors of the Senate. That was way back in 2007, the very first time he ran as senator.

So after six years of being a senator, many asked what had transpired? has he proven himself worthy of the people's votes once again and served for another six-years term.

An elected senator is expected to create or file bills, that's his primary role, to make laws.  But to date, nothing yet can be attributed solely to his name. As Chairman of the Committee on Justice and Human Rights, to date Senate Bill No. 2817 still awaits signature of President Noynoy Aquino.  This bill entitled "an Act Defining and Penalizing the Crime of Enforced or Involuntary Disappearance".  If enacted, this will become a significant law for human rights, perpetrators of involuntary disappearance will be meted the penalty of "reclusion perpetua" or life sentence which is equivalent to 20 years and one day to 40 years of imprisonment.

Another bill, Senate Bill 2106 titled "An Act to Grant Monthly Pension to Government Retirees under RA 161 Who Have Reached the Age of Seventy Years." According to Sen. Escudero, this proposal recognizes that majority of this class of retirees has been living in abject poverty, and many of them have to depend on dole-outs from close relatives and friends. Aged government personnel who retired need monthly pension because of their late age their opportunities of earning are already almost nil.

To date, not a single bill can be attributed to his name as main author, probably most of his works just like mentioned earlier are still in process and/or for signature of the Philippine president.

Nevertheless, as a young and outstanding politician he is already coveted with many awards such as: 2008 Anak TV Seal's Ten Most Admired TV Personalities; 2008 Young Global Leader, World Economic Forum; 2007 Asia's Idol, Asia News Network; 2005 The Outstanding Young Men Awardee in Youth Leadership; 2002 Gawad Papuri Awardee; 2002 Most Outstanding Congressman of the 1st Session of the 12th Congress; 2002 One of the Outstanding Solons of the 12th Congress; 2000 Legislator of the Year: 2001 Top Congressman; 2001 One of the Outstanding Solons of the 12th Congress; 2001/2002 Leaders of the 12th Congress; 1998, 1999, 2000 Most Outstanding Solon; 2000 Outstanding Public Servant of the Year; 2000 Exceptional Young Achiever; 1999 Grand Advocate of Press Freedom; 1999 Youth Achiever in the Government Sector; 2000 9th KBP Golden Dove Awardee.

Many says, he talks a lot but less action. Agree! he is the one whom we always see on television, hear on radio interviews, visible in public forums talking about many issues.  He was then the Spokesperson for the Presidential candidacy of the late Fernando Poe Jr., he is a public figure and because of his talkies, someone like me have been becoming aware of the current issues and stop to think, and re-think these relevant issues. There maybe two kinds of person, the "thinker" and the "doer". He might be needing another term to continue what he has began.  He is young and intelligent and our country needs someone like him, amidst those traditional politicians, he can be someone of a trend setter, to make things happen and go for change.

What's my say with regards to his admitting a relationship with a local showbiz personality, Heart Evangelista? I would like to put this aside with regards to my admiration of Sen. Chiz Escudero as a politician.  I consider his having a girlfriend (after being separated from his wife) just as normal for a single-status person like him, he is just human.  Is this a campaign strategy? I don't care, neither I care about Heart Evangelista because I am not a fan of her.  Will I go against Sen. Escudero because this relationship might not do good for his next campaign? probably. He made it to the Senate as a known family-man six years ago.  Hopefully, he'll make it again and his answers to these questions put into action.

If "Team Chiz" will call on me again to serve the team, I will readily offer my services.

Helping to Ease the Side Effects of Cancer Treatment

Cancer is the uncontrolled growth and spread of cells. It can affect almost any part of the body. The growths often invade surrounding tissue and can metastasize to distant sites. Many cancers can be prevented by avoiding exposure to common risk factors, such as tobacco smoke. In addition, a significant proportion of cancers can be cured, by surgery, radiotherapy or chemotherapy, especially if they are detected early (www.who.int).

It is the leading cause of death worldwide, accounting for 7.6 million deaths (around 13% of all deaths) in 2008, majority occurs in low and middle-income countries.

In the Philippines, cancer is now the third leading cause of mortality, claiming thousands of lives every year.  It is considered a catastrophic disease owing to its impact to health, productivity and over-all quality of life and the high cost of therapy that cause impoverishment of patients and their families.  Based on the latest data from the Philippine Cancer Registry, breast cancer is now the top site of malignancy affecting mostly women in their most productive years of life.  Thus far, at least 10,000 breast cancer cases are being reported annually in the Philippines with a mortality rate of about 40% (Philippine Cancer Facts and Statistics 2010).

With the growing census of cancer incidence in the country, there is real concern in providing supportive care not only during treatment but more so when the treatment side effects start manifesting.

To highlight the celebration of Breast Cancer Awareness month, Point of Care solutions Inc. (PCSI) in partnership with United Laboratories recently introduced Evolife products to the Philippines. These are products that specifically formulated for cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy and radiotherapy treatments.

The main objective is to offer quality products that will greatly reduced the pain and inconvenience being experienced by cancer patients brought about by the treatments that they are going through.

PCSI is the exclusive distributor of Evolife's full range of cancer-support care products that are the result of years of research and development by a dedicated team of dermatologists, oncologists, and scientists based in France.  Evolife products contain a unique blend of natural minerals that provide premium hydration and protection for patients undergoing therapy treatments.

EvoSkin Gel Cream and Evolife Hydrating Skin Cleanser: provide a unique hydrating solution for skin side effects of cancer therapy such as cracks, dryness and a burning sensation

EvoMucy mouthwash and spray: for mouth sores

EvoLip: for chapped or sensitive lips

EvoDry mouth spray: to combat mouth and throat dryness

EvoDonto toothpaste: for sensitive and irritated gums

EvoCapil hydrating spray: calms the scalp and rejuvenates hair follicles to encourage hair re-growth

EvoDeo deodorant spray: an alcohol-free deodorant spray for hypersensitive skin controls hot flashes and excessive sweating

EvoNail: helps revitalize darkened, yellow, brittle or cracked nails and restores them to their natural state.

There were cancer patients who attended the event and they shared testimonies how these products have at least managed to shaped their lives while undergoing treatments.  Despite the agony, the pain that they are experiencing because of the disease itself, what I can see in them are brave personas.  Each one of them gladly told us stories of how they are combating the condition and how Evolife products have helped them a lot.

According to cancer patient, Tina, when she underwent chemotherapy and radiotherapy, she experienced mouth sores and burning sensations on her skin. "The mouth sores were too painful to eat anything so I lost a lot of weight.  After my doctor recommended EvoMucy mouth was, the sores disappeared in 3 days for good.  This helped me regain my energy as I went through with my treatment.  I also used EvoSkin Gel Cream and EvoNail.  after using it for a few days, the burning sensation went away and my nails did not blacken at all, unlike other patients undergoing treatment."

The new partnership also aims to further boosts Unilab's concern in expanding its portfolio to provide a wholistic supportive care in alleviating the condition of cancer patients.  Thsi new offering is a response to the need of addressing the side effects as much as the cancer treatment itself.

Yabang Pinoy Launches PHmade: “It’s Worth Buying For”

A revolutionary campaign was recently introduced to promote Philippine made products. The PHmade movement aims to encourage each and every Filipinos to support locally made products and services. Such will create a big impact and to contribute for the growth of our economy

Yabang Pinoy intensifies its consumer revolution campaign through the PHmade movement.

The pioneering Filipino pride movement, through PHmade, yet again encourages Filipinos to support Filipino ideas, business concepts, products, and services. The campaign aims to educate Filipinos, through videos, print materials and events, on the availability and viability of Filipino brands, and on the positive impact that going local contributes to the economy.

PHmade’s tagline “It’s Worth Buying For” encourages each Filipino to think twice before spending: is it really worth buying for? Yabang Pinoy believes that small things, when done together, can create a big difference. If each Filipino became conscious of where he spends one peso, he will understand how each choice affects himself, fellow Filipinos, and the country. PHmade also aspires to influence Filipino entrepreneurs into supporting local natural and human resources.

Indeed, patronage of locally made goods and services should be a lifestyle. It enables homegrown brands to improve and compete against foreign brands. The local economy also improves as money goes back and forth between consumer and business, employee and employer. And as more entrepreneurs create, develop, and expand their businesses, more job opportunities are generated. PHmade recognizes Filipino ingenuity and the role of each Filipino in nation-building.

PHmade focuses on seven categories: Produce, Home, Footwear, Fashion, Personal and Home Care, Food and Beverage, and Entertainment. The campaign will continue to collaborate with Filipino entrepreneurs and encourage them to continue to improve their products and services and to always aim for Filipino brands to be global brands.

PHmade is a project of Yabang Pinoy, the pioneering Filipino pride movement that started in 2005. As it celebrates its 8th anniversary, the organization includes it among numerous Filipino pride projects, such as the Y.A.B.A.N.G. Camp (Youth Achievers Building A Nation of Greatness Camp), Yabang Pinoy Goes to School, Pinaka-mahabang Todo Patintero, Global Pinoy Bazaar, and many more. In the 8 years that Yabang Pinoy has immersed itself in various nation-building activities, it re-affirms its belief that true progress and development in our country will start once Filipinos begin living a proudly Filipino lifestyle.

Yabang Pinoy invites every Filipino to be part of the PHmade movement. As early as now, save November 10- 11 2012 for the 8th Global Pinoy Bazaar – a showcase of Filipino products made with 100% Filipino Love and Pride.

SAY GOODBYE TO WEAK TEETH!

Our Mom is our do-all, know-all true friend and as some people say, our “bestest best” friend in the world. Nothing she says or does will make us look or feel bad; most of the time, she is our comforter when we are depressed, our companion when we are alone, and our reliable problem-solver.

And she’s even more unfailing when it comes to her family’s health, especially her kids. She is our round-the-clock reminder when it comes to telling us to take our medicines when we are sick, to drink a glass of milk either before going to bed or during breakfast, or brushing our teeth before and after meals.

Speaking of brushing our teeth, this is something that most kids forget—well, don’t like—to follow no matter how much they love their Moms. However, lesson is learned later when their teeth begins to ache because of tooth decay.

When we eat, food particles get stuck in the teeth, especially in between brushing and flossing. These food particles contain sugars and acids that may destroy minerals in the teeth that, in turn, trigger a chemical reaction that causes the tooth enamel to tarnish and erode fast, thus making it weak and brittle. But tooth decay can be avoided by eating a well-balanced diet, brush, flossing regularly, brushing the teeth with a fluoride-based toothpaste, and visiting the dentist at least twice a year.

And for added measure, Moms can give their kids’ teeth a little “exercise” to be fit enough for stronger, harder and bigger bites and bring back lost teeth minerals through “remineralization” by getting into the habit of chewing a dental health gum such as Lotte Xylitol Neo.

Highly recommended by dentists, Lotte Xylitol Neo Dental Health Gum has xylitol, a natural sugar that helps stop the growth of cavity-causing bacteria to help reduce the risk of tooth decay. Plus, the “calcium phosphates” of Lotte Xylitol Neo Dental Health Gum is the mineral mainly responsible in helping “remineralize” or rebuild your teeth. With just 2 pellets 4-5 times a day of Lotte Xylitol Neo Dental Health Gum, imagine the tremendous benefits to your kids’ teeth.

So who says kids can’t bite more than they can chew? From now on, your kids can say goodbye to weak teeth and say hello to good, strong bites by helping their teeth become stronger with a little help from Lotte Xylitol Neo Dental Health Gum!

Sold and distributed in the Philippines by Lotte Confectionary (Pilipinas) Corp., Lotte Xylitol Neo Dental Health Gum, which comes in Fresh Mint, Blueberry Mint and Lime Mint, is available at leading supermarkets, major drugstores and convenience stores.
