A Day with the Grass

I spent my weekend Saturday with a group of mommies and kids and famous celebrity, TV Host and Sports Enthusiast Ms. Dyan Castillejo with her son Matthew, talking about "grass".

Its not all really about a simple grass, rather "wheat grass".

Do you know that wheat grass contains the highest CHLOROPHYLL content among other greens; it is a great source of fiber; it is loaded with ANTIOXIDANTS; its ROOTS are rich in an enzyme called P4D1 which helps in cellular repair; and ENZYMES in wheat grass support the liver in breaking down harmful substances in the body and blood stream.

Ms. Dyan Castillejo shares her life experiences from being an athlete at a very young age.  She was the Philippines' premiere tennis champion, played at Wimbledon and US Open.  After retiring from being a tennis player, she shifted into broadcasting. She is now a popular TV hosts to various sports and lifestyle programs.

Fellow blogger Carlo, welcoming the group

Mr. Edward Ling, President/CEO of Easy Pha-max Philippines, Inc.

Having an active lifestyle, it is important for her to be healthy as well.  According to her "when you take in nutritious food, your output gets better".

Her son Matthew, age 9, complements his mom's sports enthusiasm.  An sports adventurer himself, he grew up being with his mom during out of town trips for her sports program. Only when Dyan's father remarked on her that Matthew needs to go to school and therefore needs to stay home.

At school, Matthew relates that he is active with the Student Council campaigning for an official position where he won as Assistant Treasurer.  He also joined the school choir.  After school, he is into playing tennis and football.

Pampering Services and Baby Blast

Baby Blast now on its third year is a yearly event organized by  Outbox Media Production Agency.  It is an exciting event intended for BABIES and the WHOLE FAMILY! Baby Blast Event aims to promote Early Head Start (EHS) Education, and to have a lasting influence of its advocacy on the importance of fun learning.

This year activities include a Play and Learn Area, Imagination Corner, Pre-School Area and the Family Wellness Corner where baby massage is one of the services available.

At the OBM Baby Blast 3, I was indeed one of the privileged moms who was able to avail a  free pampering massage for my little boy Ivan courtesy of Little Lamb's Kiddie Spa & Salon.

Thank you to Ate Rose of Little Lamb's Kiddie Spa & Salon for the pampering service she gave to Ivan.  Also for being so patient because he laughs a lot especially when his tummy's being touched, which meant he tickles.

I also bought this Eucalyptus Massage Oil, which I am now using for Ivan's daily massage before bedtime.  Accordingly it is made of natural ingredients such as the virgin coconut oil; and eucalyptus which is relaxing and helps to relieve coughs and colds.

The event also featured several booths.  Mad Science - where Ivan get to participate and observe some simple science experiments.  He is actually a fan of "I Bilib", a weekly sunday show of GMA-7. The play area courtesy of different learning schools is his top favorite because he was able to play along with the other kids.

One of the onstage performances
A production number from the famous Velasco Brothers which thrilled the audience.

Sitting beside Mr. Mr. Anthony Taberna of ABS-CBN, lucky Ivan.  Actually, my little boy don't want his picture taken with him, this one is a wild shot.

Thank you Baby Blast and OBM for making us part of your event.  Surely we'll again look forward joining you next year.  (This is our second time joining Baby Blast).

Ivan's Pink Shirt

The pink shirt is a gift from my youngest sister who lives in Netherlands.  It was sent as a Christmas present along with the chocolates, chocolates, chocolates and many other things.  He likes to wear this because it is 100% made of cotton therefore so comfortable and perfect enough for our weather.

This photo was taken inside the Jerudong Playground during one of our daily visits when we had our vacation there last December 2011. This is where hubby is working for 8 years now.  My son Ivan, enjoying the shade under a big flower canopy.

Graduation Treats for Ivan

My son Ivan recently graduated from Nursery school garnering Fourth Honor in their class.

Being a proud mommy I gave him a dinner treat at Max's Restaurant at SM Calamba.   Remember my previous post on GCs that I am keeping for special occasions, well I used one of them here.

We went there with my younger sister Jivveth and her 2 kids, Ymanne and JM.

We ordered the Per Table Half Menu (P1,253.70) which includes the following dishes: Max's Fried Chicken,  Soup of the Day,  Pancit Canton,  Chopsuey,  Lumpiang Shanghai,  Plain Rice,  Caramel Bar. This set is good for 5 persons but does not include drinks.  You need to order additional drinks for this set menu. Actually the meal was more than enough for us because the kids don't each much. We just took home some of the food.

My little boy taking advantage of the occasion to get a taste of softdrinks.  Call me a strict mom or what? but he is not allowed softdrinks at home. Only when we dine out (and rarely he!he!he!) he can treat himself.  Only mommy can drink Coke.

The get away winner is the lumpiang shanghai, the kids like it so much.  Honestly I never get to taste them.  Accordingly, it tastes real nice.  See that little boy, both hands holding the lumpiang shanghai

take home for "Nanay" (the kid's lola)
To our son Ivan, keep up the good work!!! Daddy and Mommy will always be proud of you.

PAREF WOODROSE at Camp Trailblazer

Today I headed further south of Laguna, to the town of Sta. Cruz where Camp Allen is located. I was one of those invited to visit students of PAREF WOODROSE (School for Girls) who are attending Camp Trailblazer.

Trailblazer is a yearly summer leadership camp for girls incoming grade six to second year high school.  Now on its third year, and held at Camp Allen from April 9 to 14, 2012.The camp site is a 4.5 hectare area located  in Sta. Cruz, Laguna surrounded by fruit bearing trees, paved stone, and wooden cabins. It also has its own swimming pool, play areas, bonfire area, clubhouse, a chapel, among several other facilities.

This year, Trailblazer has 120 camp participants, 61 of whom are from PAREF WOODROSE,  There are also 30 junior counselors, 11 of them are from Woodrose (7 out of 11 are alumnae).  The junior counselors served as group leaders for the girls.

Primarily, the camp aims to develop leadership capability among its participants; help them boost their confidence, get motivated, discover themselves, that is, create an awareness level such they will get to know their own self.

The  camp activities evolved around the 3 F's: faith, friends and fun.  Camp schedule is written at the back of each camper's ID.  The ID's I find so cute as well because each one of them is individually drawn by hand and color coded.

Accordingly there is no particular screening whoever is interested to attend Camp Trailblazer.  Participants not only came from the Metro Manila area, there are also girls who came all the way from Visayas and Mindanao.

For the counselors, prior to camp schedule, they need to undergo a counselor's training which is usually held during weekends.  This training programs are also conducted through their satellite organizations or schools especially those from far areas.

Camp schedule begins at 7:00 am, breakfast should be finish by 8:30 am.  All throughout the day, the girls attend various activities depends on a particular interest that they signify when they sign-up. These are: singing, dancing, theater, jewelry-making, photography, movie-making, art, crafts, guitar, creative writing and snack preparation.  There are also different sports activities to participate with.  Every night, different activities are also being held such as costume night and cheer competition, an elegant dinner, awards night. On the last camp day, the kids will present to their families and friends whatever they have accomplished at the camp.  That is they will show off a dance number if they are with the dancing group, photos taken by the photography group, among others.

Mass is being held daily at 11:20am, just before lunch time.  During meal time, the essence of femininity is practiced, that is, refinement is observed as well as back-straight posture.   I personally observed, all the girls were suddenly gone to their rooms while we are still dealing with our food.  Which means, everything is in proper order.

Before lights out at 10 pm each night, the counselors meet to assess the day's activities.

The girls are housed in very nice wooden cottages. Girls of almost same ages are put in the same room, 13 - 14 girls per room.  For the junior counselors, there are 6 - 7 girls per room. We were given the privilege to take a look at their rooms and each one of them is so amazing.  All the rooms are decorated inside and outside drawing inspiration from Disney-Pixar movies (this year's theme).

The cottages, since they are made mostly of wood are well-ventilated.  Really perfect for summer evenings.  The girls themselves are responsible for cleaning their own rooms. There are assigned sweepers, cabin monitors, bed monitors. Awards are given for the cleanest cabin and cleanest bathroom.

Preparing the back drop for the camp presentation

It is indeed such a privilege for young girls to experience a summer camp such as Trailblazer.  This is also one of the several activities that students of PAREF WOODROSE  engage themselves with.  Even during summer vacations when they are free of academic requirements, extra-curricular activities are available as well.  Such is how each and every students of Woodrose are nurtured and taught how to appreciate a balance between academic excellence and character formation.

The School:

PAREF WOODROSE  is an educational institution where academic excellence and personal information are achieved through close collaboration between the school and the home. Students of Woodrose, at a young age are already being taught not only academic excellence but focusing also on character formation.  School curriculum teaches them to become independent thinker,  an effective communicator, a responsible citizen, and a lifelong learner.

It was established by the Parents for Education Foundation (PAREF) way back in 1977,  a group of parents who wanted to be fully involved in providing an integral education for their children.

Mentoring System:
Believing that the effectiveness of child education depends largely on the unity of goals between the home and the school, Woodrose actively undertakes a close collaboration among parents, teachers and mentors.  Each student is assigned a mentor who becomes the parents' partner in guiding their daughter toward the pursuit of academic excellence and character.

Parents are educated as well through the "New Parent Education Program of NPEP.  It helps parents to become better parents, thus effectively fostering their children's academic achievement.  The Program is consists of 5 modules: Case Study Method; Family Visioning; Deliberate Parenting;  Dignity of the Person; and Home-School Collaboration and Marital Relations.

I wish I have a daughter and I am personally excited how to get admission at Woodrose.

Easter 2012

We begin the day by attending morning mass at the Calamba Cathedral.  There are many people attending the Easter mass, the church is already full inside and some just managed to listen to the mass outside.  I did not take photos of the people inside the church but outside, this is the scenery.
Kit (baby rabbit) for sale

A pair costs P280.0, was it cheaper compare to the price at pet shops?

There is the usual balloon vendor (I wonder, I didn't saw round balloons today, mostly are the ones printed with "angry bird"); candle vendors; little maya (he!he! I am not sure if its really maya, but its a small brown bird); the traffic enforcer taking some rest within the shade.  The sun is all up high and yeah! its terribly hot yesterday.

Afterwhich, we went to SM Calamba to check-out their Easter Day event.  I signed-up Ivan so he can join their activity but I decided not to later because I was kinda disappointed with their event mechanics.

Anyway, Ivan at least had this photo op with one of their Easter bunnies;

and color his bunny picture.  The crayons were collected back later, so funny! maybe they'll re-use it on another occasion (oh! this is not the cause of my rant).

We just moved to Waltermart to join the activity there.

The Waltermart activity this time was hosted by Jollibee.  As you sign-up for the event, you'll be given this access ticket.

There were lots of kids today, I think they mentioned they are allowing at least 100 kids to join the activity.  The Waltermart events as to my experience are more organized and less hassled as compared to SM Calamba.  We used to attend here the Easter and Trick or Treat Activities.  Being organized I think, depends on the person in-charge.  Waltermart always have simple rules to follow and they strictly follow and implement what was announced. Yesterday my disappointment with the SM Calamba activity was with the person in-charge.  I think he was just so inconsistent and kinda "stupid" (my apologies for the term, but that's how I felt).  I knew it might be a petty matter but my heart goes to my child's frustration.

Anyway, the program began with the day's prayer.  I was kind of amazed because Ivan volunteered to do the opening prayer.  When the Jollibee host/staff asked "who want's to lead the prayer?" he's the only one who raised hand. To my surprised, I forgot to take picture of him while praying.  He say the prayer they usually do in nursery school.

Next is the warm-up exercise led by Jollibee mascot.  And then there were different games for the kids. Ivan and Ymanne (my niece) joined "The Boat is Sinking", however they didn't win. At least, they have participated ha!ha!

After several games, next is the egg painting activity.  Each kid was given a "chalk egg", a paintbrush and sets of water colors in red, blue, yellow and white.  Only now I realized those are "angry bird" colors.  I should have helped Ivan did an "angry bird" design.  Anyway, I am not a career stage mom, I let him do what he wants.

Kids are all busy painting their eggs
Staff from Jollibee Waltermart selected the winners for the egg painting activity. My kids' eggs were not selected, but for me they are winners.  I am proud of their creations.

A final dance with the Jollibee mascot.  Ivan was all delighted joking with the mascot.  A year ago, he won't go near anyone. But now he likes them already, especially Jollibee.

Thank you Waltermart Calamba and Jollibee. We had great fun!!!

What about you, how was your Easter Day celebration?
