Chiz Escudero for Senator in 2013

I was there as a pioneer member of "Team Chiz". We are a group of students and young professionals who volunteered ourselves to work together and bring then Rep. Chiz Escudero to the doors of the Senate. That was way back in 2007, the very first time he ran as senator.

So after six years of being a senator, many asked what had transpired? has he proven himself worthy of the people's votes once again and served for another six-years term.

An elected senator is expected to create or file bills, that's his primary role, to make laws.  But to date, nothing yet can be attributed solely to his name. As Chairman of the Committee on Justice and Human Rights, to date Senate Bill No. 2817 still awaits signature of President Noynoy Aquino.  This bill entitled "an Act Defining and Penalizing the Crime of Enforced or Involuntary Disappearance".  If enacted, this will become a significant law for human rights, perpetrators of involuntary disappearance will be meted the penalty of "reclusion perpetua" or life sentence which is equivalent to 20 years and one day to 40 years of imprisonment.

Another bill, Senate Bill 2106 titled "An Act to Grant Monthly Pension to Government Retirees under RA 161 Who Have Reached the Age of Seventy Years." According to Sen. Escudero, this proposal recognizes that majority of this class of retirees has been living in abject poverty, and many of them have to depend on dole-outs from close relatives and friends. Aged government personnel who retired need monthly pension because of their late age their opportunities of earning are already almost nil.

To date, not a single bill can be attributed to his name as main author, probably most of his works just like mentioned earlier are still in process and/or for signature of the Philippine president.

Nevertheless, as a young and outstanding politician he is already coveted with many awards such as: 2008 Anak TV Seal's Ten Most Admired TV Personalities; 2008 Young Global Leader, World Economic Forum; 2007 Asia's Idol, Asia News Network; 2005 The Outstanding Young Men Awardee in Youth Leadership; 2002 Gawad Papuri Awardee; 2002 Most Outstanding Congressman of the 1st Session of the 12th Congress; 2002 One of the Outstanding Solons of the 12th Congress; 2000 Legislator of the Year: 2001 Top Congressman; 2001 One of the Outstanding Solons of the 12th Congress; 2001/2002 Leaders of the 12th Congress; 1998, 1999, 2000 Most Outstanding Solon; 2000 Outstanding Public Servant of the Year; 2000 Exceptional Young Achiever; 1999 Grand Advocate of Press Freedom; 1999 Youth Achiever in the Government Sector; 2000 9th KBP Golden Dove Awardee.

Many says, he talks a lot but less action. Agree! he is the one whom we always see on television, hear on radio interviews, visible in public forums talking about many issues.  He was then the Spokesperson for the Presidential candidacy of the late Fernando Poe Jr., he is a public figure and because of his talkies, someone like me have been becoming aware of the current issues and stop to think, and re-think these relevant issues. There maybe two kinds of person, the "thinker" and the "doer". He might be needing another term to continue what he has began.  He is young and intelligent and our country needs someone like him, amidst those traditional politicians, he can be someone of a trend setter, to make things happen and go for change.

What's my say with regards to his admitting a relationship with a local showbiz personality, Heart Evangelista? I would like to put this aside with regards to my admiration of Sen. Chiz Escudero as a politician.  I consider his having a girlfriend (after being separated from his wife) just as normal for a single-status person like him, he is just human.  Is this a campaign strategy? I don't care, neither I care about Heart Evangelista because I am not a fan of her.  Will I go against Sen. Escudero because this relationship might not do good for his next campaign? probably. He made it to the Senate as a known family-man six years ago.  Hopefully, he'll make it again and his answers to these questions put into action.

If "Team Chiz" will call on me again to serve the team, I will readily offer my services.

  10. I will still vote for Chiz. Lesser evil na lang ang choice ng Pinoy kaysa naman sa iba puro pangungurakot lang ang alam.

  12. Mommy Gi, I used to like Chiz and voted for him the last time he ran. But as for this coming elections, I'm thinking twice. Yes I agree that having a girlfriend is really natural but I don't go for its too much publicity. I also don't like him hostings alongside with Kris Aquino every morning in the latter's show. He's not even "that" helpful in the shoe. Just my two cents. :)
